What is the focus of this dual degree program?
This program bridges clinical mental health training with theological foundations. It is designed for students who want to understand the relationship between a Christian worldview and behavioral science theory, preparing them for both church-based and secular clinical practices.
How are faith and psychology integrated in the classroom?
Coursework actively integrates scriptural truth with clinical psychology. Faculty teach from a biblically rooted perspective, treating theology as a historical and contemporary behavioral science meant to address human problems and relational healing

Does this dual degree qualify me for state clinical licensure?
Yes. While the standalone M.A. in Counseling Ministry does not lead to licensure, the M.S. in Counseling Psychology component is approved by the California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) to fulfill the educational requirements for the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) credential.
Can I also pursue LPCC licensure?
Yes. Students can choose to take specific courses to meet the educational requirements for the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) credential, allowing for dual LMFT/LPCC track preparation.
Where can I work after graduating?
Graduates are uniquely equipped to work in a variety of environments, including church-based counseling centers, congregational/pastoral ministries, chaplaincies, para-church organizations, private clinical practices, and community mental health clinics.

Is this program available online?
No. While CBU offers a standalone online track for the M.S. in Counseling Psychology, the dual degree program with Counseling Ministry is exclusively available via on-campus delivery.
How long does it take to complete the program?
The standard clinical track takes roughly 3 years.
Are there clinical placement requirements?
Yes. Students complete clinical practicum hours at approved external sites. CBU maintains over 100 established partnerships with clinical training sites spanning schools, community mental health organizations, and church environments

What are the GPA and testing requirements?
Applicants need a minimum cumulative (or last 60/90 units) GPA of 2.75. The GRE is not required for admission, though scores can be submitted voluntarily to strengthen an application file if your undergraduate GPA is low.
Do I need an undergraduate degree in psychology?
No. Students with any undergraduate major may apply. However, if your bachelor's degree is not in psychology, you must complete a prerequisite course in General Psychology or Lifespan Development during your first semester of graduate enrollment.
What is required for the application packet?
A completed application requires official university transcripts, a $45 application fee, and your choice of a written statement of purpose (500-word max) or a program interview. Admission decisions are typically distributed within 3 to 10 business days after file completion.
